‘Cheap carpet imports ruining market & environment – CEO, Transasia

Going against the said policy of the country to save the environment, cheap synthetic carpets are being dumped in the Indian markets, which is directly affecting the livelihood of around155,000 carpet weavers across the country. The turnover of the carpet industry has grown from Rs 8 billion in 1980 to Rs 40 billion currently. To add to the woes of the industry, is the slowdown in global trade which has affected carpet sales to a great extent.

According to Mr Yao Jian, spokesman of Ministry of Commerce, The just-concluded G-20 summit has reiterated the objection to trade protectionism and urged to curb the utilization of trade and investment barriers. As a worldwide economic giant, the US should abide by its promise and keep cautious in the file of anti-dumping and countervailing case against oil country tubular goods from China.
