What is the duration of the safeguard measures?

Definitive general safeguard measures
- General rule:
The maximum initial period for the application of the safeguard measure is four (4) years.
Note: Such four (4) year period shall include the period, if any, in which a provisional relief was in effect
- Exception to the general rule
The initial period may be extended up to a maximum of eight (8) years (10 years for developing countries).
Special safeguard measures
The additional special safeguard duty shall be maintained only until the end of the year in which it is imposed.
