Practices of Anti-dumping investigation by Canada

Canada is one of the top users of anti-dumping measures. According to WTO statistics, by the end of 2022, Canada has initiated a total of 279 Anti-dumping investigations and decided to impose duties on 189 cases (this number is significantly higher than 42 Anti-subsidy measures and 1 Safeguard measure imposed by Canada).

In the past two years, the number of initiated Anti-dumping investigations in Canada has decreased. According to WTO statistics, Canada only initiated 02 Anti-dumping investigations in 2022, which is significantly lower than 06 cases in 2021 and 24 cases in 2020.

The countries/territories subject to the most Anti-dumping measures by Canada

 

According to WTO statistics, Canada conducts Anti-dumping investigations the most for imports originating from the following countries/territories: China, Korea, the United States, Chinese Taipei, India, ... In which, China is the country subject to the most Anti-dumping investigations with 48 initiations (accounting for 17.2% of Canada's total Anti-dumping investigations).

 

Vietnam is also in the top 10 countries/territories with the most Anti-dumping investigations by Canada with a total of 10 cases (accounting for 3.6%).

Of the 279 cases initiated, Canada has imposed Anti-dumping measures on 189 cases. Among them, China is the country where Canada has applied the most anti-dumping measures with a total of 36 cases, accounting for 19% of the total 189 measures applied by Canada, followed by South Korea with 16 measures (accounting for 8.5%), the United States with 12 measures (accounting for 6.3%),…

 

For Vietnam, in 10 initiated Anti-dumping investigations, Canada imposed Anti-dumping duties on 08 cases on Vietnamese export.

Sectors subject to the most Anti-dumping measures by Canada

 

There are many sectors subject to anti-dumping measures by WTO members. Base metals and articles are the group subject to the most anti-dumping duty, accounting for 33.4% of the total number of anti-dumping measures globally, followed by Chemical and Allied Industries (accounting for 21.1%), plastics and rubber (accounting for 12.2%). In other words, products for industrial use seem to be the main subjects of trade remedies.

In Canada, Anti-dumping measures are applied mainly to metal products (accounting for 74%), machinery and vegetables are the products subject to anti-dumping duties the second most with 5.8%, followed by processed foods, beverages, spirits, vinegar and tobacco (3.7%), ...
