India levies safeguard duty on Chinese and Malaysian solar tech

India’s Ministry of Commerce, through the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR), has imposed a safeguard duty (SGD) on solar cells and modules imported from China and Malaysia for the next two years. DGTR, a recently created umbrella authority for trade matters under the Ministry of Commerce, has recommended a 25% SGD for the first year, followed by 20% on such imports for the first six months of the second year and 15% for the remaining half of the second year.
