US Imposes 25 Percent Import Tariff on Solar Cells and Modules from China

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has announced a 25 percent additional tariff on the import of 279 Chinese products, worth approximately $16 billion. Among these products, solar cells and modules are included under the category “diodes for semiconductor devices, other than light-emitting diodes.”

U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer yesterday confirmed 25% tariffs on $16 billion worth of goods from China in the second round of import duties imposed under the Section 301 process – which permits the president to take action to remove a measure deemed to be damaging to U.S. interests or in violation of international agreements, under the U.S. Trade Act of 1974.
