U.S: Stainless sheet, strip appeal heads to CIT

NEW YORK — The U.S. stainless steel industry will file an appeal with the Court of International Trade (CIT) by the end of this month regarding the International Trade Commission’s decision to end anti-dumping duties on imports of stainless sheet and strip from Mexico.
The domestic industry—comprising North American Stainless Inc., Ghent, Ky.; Allegheny Technologies Inc., Pittsburgh; and AK Steel Corp., West Chester, Ohio—had previously filed an appeal to the ITC’s decision under the North American Free Trade Agreement. But the defending party, German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp AG’s Mexican subsidiary Mexinox SA de CV, opted to have the case heard by the CIT instead, David A. Hartquist, attorney at Washington-based law firm Kelley Drye & Warren LLP, who represents the domestic industry told.
The domestic stainless industry now has three weeks to file the new appeal with the CIT, Hartquist said.
Mexinox’s counsel declined to comment.
