Washington (Platts)--

The US International Trade Commission has launched a five-year review to determine whether revoking anti-dumping orders on pure magnesium from China would hurt US magnesium producers and importers.

The announcement follows the continuation of two prior five-year reviews, the first in October 2000 and the second in July 2006 after the US Department of Commerce issued an anti-dumping duty order on Chinese magnesium imports on May 12, 1995.
"The commission is now conducting a third review to determine whether revocation of the order would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury to the domestic industry within a reasonably foreseeable time," the ITC said in a statement.
The ITC will assess responses by interested parties to determine whether it should pursue a full or expedited review. Review targets include all pure magnesium ingot, including off-spec pure magnesium; pure and alloy magnesium, including primary and secondary magnesium; and magnesium in ingot and granular form, the ITC said.
Domestic companies that the review affects include all producers of pure magnesium ingot, including off-spec pure magnesium; all producers of pure and alloy magnesium, including primary and secondary magnesium, and magnesium in ingot and granular form, as well as magnesium importers.

Written responses from interested parties must be received by July 1 and comments regarding the adequacy of the responses and whether the ITC should conduct an expedited or full review must be submitted by August 15, ITC said.
