KUCHING: Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) will help to coordinate appeal in February next year following the anti-dumping duties imposed by South Korea on Malaysia’s plywood.
STIDC pointed out that the anti-dumping duties imposed were effective February this year. Among the nine plywood manufacturers in Malaysia that were affected, eight of them were from Sarawak.
“We are now getting the manufacturers’ feedback. What we intend to do is to monitor the domestic prices as we need to have some evidence that we’re no longer doing dumping for one year from February this year to February next year.
“We are taking actions to safeguard the local timber industry from this anti-dumping duties imposed by South Korea to one of our timber products,” it highlighted during the STIDC Industry Update 2011 held yesterday.
STIDC stated that plywood manufacturers that were affected by the anti-dumping duties could file for review through the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) after the one year period.
According to STIDC, South Korea is Malaysia’s second largest trading partner for plywood after Japan.
