Macao: No Longer Dumping Escape Route

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The latest measure of the European Union must prevent the use of Macao as an escape route for anti-dumping duties. It is reported that the European Union has decided to include Macao in the anti-dumping duties on leather footwear that it has imposed on China and Vietnam.

Statistics showed that since the implementation of a 16.5% anti-dumping duty on Chinese leather shoes in October 2006 the import to Macao rose drastically. Although Macao has only 500,000 inhabitants, it imported 4.5 million pair of shoes. Most of them were exported to European countries.

Whether these new EU measures will have an effect on the current anti-dumping duties for bicycles made in China, is not yet clear.
