NIPPON KINZOKU CO. (TSE:5491) plans to boost production of stainless steel foil for solar cell panels to 70-80 tons per month in the April-June quarter, twice the volume of the January-March period. Output will be raised by increasing capacity utilization at the Itabashi, Tokyo, plant, where stainless steel sheet from major steel producers is further rolled to produce foil 0.02mm to 0.2mm thick that is used as a solar cell substrate.
* The firm receives orders for around 40 tons a month from U.S. solar cell manufacturers.
* Around a decade ago, the U.S. government imposed a 40.18 per cent tariff on Nippon Kinzoku's stainless steel foil as an anti-dumping measure.
