(India) Dumping duty on sodium nitrite from China
29/12/2009 12:00
The Finance Ministry has imposed anti-dumping duty on imports of sodium nitrite from China. The duty will remain in force up to January 16, 2011.
This move of the Centre follows the Designated Authority's recommendation in its mid-term review in November 2009 for continued imposition of definitive anti-dumping on sodium nitrite imports from China.
Sodium nitrite is a white crystal powder that finds application in pharmaceuticals, dye industry, lubricants, construction chemicals and textiles.
The anti-dumping duty levied is equivalent to the difference between $617.42 per tonne and its “landed value”.
Duty on linen
Meanwhile, the Finance Ministry has imposed definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of flax fabric from China and Hong Kong. Flax fabric is a woven fabric with more than 30 per cent flax content. Flax is also known as linen.
On flax fabric imports from China, the Centre has imposed an anti-dumping duty equivalent to the difference between Rs 206.24 per metre and the “landed value”.
In the case of imports from Hong Kong, the anti-dumping duty will be equivalent to difference between Rs 209.72 per metre and the “landed value”.
The definitive duty would be levied for a period of five years from March 26, 2009, which was the date of imposition of provisional anti-dumping duty.
Jaya Shree Textiles (a unit of Aditya Birla Novo Ltd) had filed the petition seeking anti-dumping probe on flax fabric imports from China and Hong Kong.
