New Delhi, Feb 22 (PTI) India is likely to impose an anti-dumping duty on import of bus and truck radial tyres to protect domestic manufacturers from surge in cheap shipments from China and Thailand.

The Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) in the commerce ministry has recommended imposition of anti-dumping duty to the extent of USD 90 per bus or truck tyre.

"Anti-dumping duty to be imposed on new/unused pneumatic radial tyres, with or without tubes and flaps of rubber used in buses and lorries/trucks," the DGAD said.

The final decision on the recommendation will be taken by the Finance Ministry.

Import of these products from China had increased to 16,861 tonnes in 2006-07 from a mere 1,361 tonnes in 2004-05.

The investigations studied data relating to this period.

The government acted on complaints from domestic manufacturers of radial tyres represented by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA).
