EuroChem to supply carbamide to US duty free

The US Department of Commerce has set a zero import duty on carbamide supplied by EuroChem, the Russian mineral and chemical company said in a statement today.

This marks the abolition of an antidumping duty on the imports of carbamide from Russia imposed by the US more than 20 years ago. The US started revising the duty for EuroChem on February 27, 2007, after the company supplied a batch of carbamide in late 2006. To receive the duty cut, EuroChem was required to prove that it was not affiliated with exporters from the former Soviet Union and that it needed to have an individual customs duty as a new exporter. EuroChem's efforts were backed by Russia's Economy Ministry, representatives from US farmers' associations, as well as members of the US Senate and the House of Representatives.
