EU solar firms to bring anti-dumping suit against Chinese rivals
16/01/2012 12:00
German photovoltaic manufacturer Solarworld has urged EU countries to launch an anti-dumping and countervailing investigation against Chinese photovoltaic companies, which export 80% of their products to Europe, after the company successfully implemented the same move in the United States.
Frank Asbec, Solarworld CEO, said that some European solar energy companies have jointly considered filing a lawsuit against Chinese photovoltaic companies which have been dumping their products in Germany over the last few months. Solarworld is also the largest producer of solar cells in Germany.
Sales of Chinese photovoltaic products in Europe reached US$30.5 billion in 2010 and US$20 billion in 2011.
Even if European photovoltaic companies affirm the good quality and cheaper price of Chinese photovoltaic products, they would still jointly sue Chinese companies to fight for profits, said Wang Xuejun, chairman of German Baysolar AG. European photovoltaic companies are expected to file a lawsuit over the Chinese New Year period, which is from Jan. 22 to 29.
The European photovoltaic industry experiences a wave of bankruptcies in 2010, dragged down by the European debt crisis and severe competition.
