EC launches antidumping inquiry into Chinese aluminium foil

The European Commission said Tuesday it had launched an antidumping investigation into imports of certain grades of aluminium foil in rolls from China into the European Union.

A complaint was lodged on November 9 by the European metals industry group Eurometaux, representing more than 40% of the total EU production of the product in question, the EC said.

The product subject to the investigation is aluminium foil of a thickness of 0.007 mm or more but less than 0.021 mm, not backed, not further worked than rolled but whether or not embossed, in low weight rolls of a weight not exceeding 10 kg.

"The complainant has provided evidence that imports of the product under investigation from the country concerned have increased overall in absolute terms and in terms of market share," the EC said in the EU's Official Journal.

The investigation will determine whether the product under investigation originating in country concerned is being dumped and whether this dumping has caused injury to the EU industry, the EC said, adding: "If the conclusions are affirmative, the investigation will examine whether the imposition of measures would not be against the [EU] interest."

The investigation will be concluded within 15 months of Tuesday's publication of the notice in the EU Official Journal. Provisional measures may be imposed no later than nine months from the publication of the notice.
