China sources solar components from Taiwan to dodge US anti-dumping fees

China solar panel manufacturers have begun looking at how to source materials internationally to dodge high import tariffs that were imposed by the US last week.

Companies headquartered in China are now making plans to get components from Taiwan, according to a report in today’s Financial Times, to get around the 31 per cent anti-dumping finds the US Department of Commerce have instigated.

The tariffs will affect the industry’s major players such as Trina Solar and Suntech but the ruling is a major boost for Germany-headquartered SolarWorld, which has been fighting for action to be taken against the ‘flood’ of Chinese imports.

The move on Friday provoked anger from the Chinese Ministry of Commerce which dubbed the ruling ‘unfair’ and said there was evidence of the US displaying protectionism.
