China appeals on EU metal fasteners ruling: WTO

China has followed the EU in filing an appeal to a World Trade Organization ruling against European Union anti-dumping duties imposed on imports of Chinese screws, nuts and bolts, the WTO said on Thursday.

A WTO panel last December upheld a complaint Beijing filed against the EU in 2009 over punitive tariffs ranging up to 85 percent on iron and steel fasteners.

The EU filed an appeal against the ruling last week.

"On 30 March 2011, China notified the Dispute Settlement Body of its decision to cross-appeal the panel report," the WTO said in a statement on Thursday.

Further details on Beijing's move and its motives were not immediately available.
The EU imported 575 million euros ($760 million) worth of Chinese fasteners in 2007, according to the Jiaxing Association of Chinese Fastener Producers.

Rulings by the appeals body normally take about three months to complete.
