China: Anti-Dumping Measures Continue For Some Phenol Imports

BEIJING (Dow Jones)--Anti-dumping measures will continue for five years for phenol imported from the U.S., Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, China's Commerce Ministry said Sunday, citing a statement it released Saturday.
"If we stop anti-dumping measures, dumping of phenol imported from Japan, South Korea, the U.S. and Taiwan will possibly continue in China, and may again hurt the domestic industry," said a statement posted on the ministry's Website, quoting results of its investigation into the issue.
The ministry decided to review the anti-dumping measures a year ago in response to applications from Chinese phenol companies, the statement said.
Phenol is used in the production of drugs, including aspirin, and of herbicides, and synthetic resins. It is also used in the creation of cosmetics, sunscreens and hair dyes.
The statement didn't say what the anti-dumping measures are and when the measures took effect.
