Bosch reveals support for AD tariffs against Chinese manufacturers in EU

Chairman Franz Fehrenbach recently revealed in an interview, with German publication Handesblatt, his support for the imposition of anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese manufacturers exporting to the EU. Jefferies has predicted doom and gloom for the Chinese market stating that, “With Bosch we believe SolarWorld will have the necessary support to move forward with its dumping case.”
Fehrenbach states that although he is an ardent opponent of import duties, he believes this is clearly dumping and required direct intervention. He calls for the government to reach a reasonable solution without immediately raising trade barriers. He states, “We must now focus strongly on research and development of the industry in Germany.”
Jeffries states that Bosch accounts for 18% of EU c-Si PV production in 2011, giving SolarWorld the necessary 25% in order to file a complaint to the EU Commission. With sufficient support, the Commission is likely to hear the anti-dumping case. Jefferies predicts a negative headline to ensue for Chinese solar cell and module suppliers but positive towards Taiwanese suppliers like SunPower and First Solar and neutral to poly and wafer suppliers (assuming the scope is largely limited to cells as in the US).
