On March 4, the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (Itac) published the final determination of its sunset review of the antidumping duties on acetaminophenol originating in or imported from the People’s Republic of China and the US.

The sunset review was initiated on May 21, 2010, following the initial notice that Itac had sent to local manufacturers on June 26, 2009, to provide a duly substantiated motivation that the expiry of the antidumping duty would likely lead to the continuation or recurrence of dumping and material injury.

Following its investigation, Itac recommended to the Minister of Trade and Industry that the dumping duties on acetaminophenol originating in or imported from China and the US be maintained. The Minister of Trade and Industry approved Itac’s recommendation for antidumping duties of 2 573c/kg against China and 2 371c/kg against the US. This implies that, in addition to the rate of customs duty, importers of these products are also subject to the dumping duty should the goods be imported from, or originate in, these two countries.
