India has imposed an anti-dumping duty of up to USD 0.26 per kg on imports of a hazardous chemical, used in manufacturing of pesticides and dyes, from China to protect the domestic industry.

The duty, which has been imposed for a period of five years, is in the range of USD 0.09-0.26 per kg of 'Para nitroaniline' imported into the country.

"The anti-dumping duty imposed shall be effective for a period of five years (unless revoked, superseded or amended earlier) from September 9," the Department of Revenue has said in a notification.

The chemical is used in manufacturing of gasoline, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, disperse dyes and poultry medications.

The levy is imposed after the designated authority Directorate General of Anti-Dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD), a nodal agency under the Commerce Ministry, had recommended the imposition of the duty after an investigation.
The DGAD concluded in its probe that the domestic industry had suffered a material injury on account of dumping of the product by China.
