Anti dumping investigation ‘threatens jobs in EU printing industry’

The European Union has launched an investigation into accusations of dumping of coated fine paper (CFP) by Chinese paper companies in the EU market. These allegations were made by Cepifine, the European association of fine paper manufacturers, at the beginning of 2010.
Stuart Andrews, European spokesperson for APP (Asia Pulp Paper), said: ‘The dumping investigation will have a negative impact on jobs in the European downstream paper industries, such as the printing industry, at a time of economic uncertainty. Dumping duties artificially increase the costs for printing businesses through distorting the market price and driving up costs unnecessarily.’
A statement from APP continued: ‘Artificially increasing the cost of CFP would have a negative impact on the competitiveness of European printing companies, who operate in a highly competitive global market. Such action by a few European paper companies could therefore have serious consequences for the near one million jobs that the printing industry provides across the EU.'
