Sandoz said sustained below-cost pricing, state subsidies and the concentration of global manufacturing capacity in China are among the market-distorting practices cited in a Reuters report.
Sandoz has reportedly filed a draft anti-dumping complaint with the European Commission over Chinese imports of amoxicillin, an antibiotic ingredient that belongs to the penicillin family, per a Reuters report.
The report noted that Sandoz said it has the only major remaining vertically integrated production network for penicillins in Europe. Sandoz also said sustained below-cost pricing, state subsidies and concentration of global capacity in China, are among the Chinese market-distorting behaviors, per the report.
Richard Saynor, Sandoz CEO, said Europe risks losing antibiotic manufacturing capacity, noting that up to 90% of global antibiotic active ingredients are now produced outside Europe, the report continued.
"Safeguarding antibiotic supply is not only a health policy issue, but a question of economic security and strategic trade policy. Europe must act now to safeguard independent supply in years to come," Saynor said in the statement, per the report.
