Việt Nam’s pepper export turnover in 2021 is estimated to reach the highest level since 2018 thanks to higher export prices, but the global pepper market development looks set to be unpredictable in 2022.

Vietnam enjoyed a trade surplus of 4 billion USD in 2021, marking the 6th consecutive year in a row the country's export turnover is higher than its import revenue, General Director of the General Statistics Office (GSO) Nguyen Thi Huong said on December 29.

In order to protect local manufacturers from cheap imports from the neighbouring country, India has imposed anti-dumping duty on five Chinese products, including some aluminium items and chemicals for five years.

Despite a negative impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the country's exports have scored a success this year with 11-month export revenues reaching approximately US$300 billion.

In separate representations to the Finance Minister, Revenue Secretary and the PMO, industry associations Aluminium Association India (AAI) and Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) have called for an urgent halt to the ongoing deliberations to impose anti-dumping duties on the import of caustic soda from Japan, Qatar, Oman and Iran.

Vietnamese firms are advised to change themselves towards increased application of high technology and stronger digital transformation to improve their products’ quality and optimise the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, thus better conquering this promising market.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) recently notified the imposition of anti-dumping duty on five products manufactured in China in order to safeguard domestic producers from lower-priced imports that the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) had found as being ‘dumped’ in the Indian market. 

Vietnam’s forestry export value this year is estimated at 15.87 billion USD, a year-on-year rise of 20 percent, an official has said.
