Vietnam surpassed China to become the largest supplier of seafood products to Australia last year following the enforcement of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

India will oppose the continuation of moratorium on customs duties on e-commerce trade at the upcoming ministerial of the World Trade Organization and push for putting an end to it as it is adversely impacting the developing countries, an official said on Tuesday.

The EU has informed the World Trade Organisation (WTO) of its decision to extend steel safeguards until 2024, now with a global quota for some products affected by Ukraine, and with Vietnam added to the "other countries" quota for hot-dip galvanised (HDG). 

In July 2021, the first tuna shipments from Vietnam were exported to the Saudi Arabian market. After only nine months, the value of Vietnam's tuna exports to this market increased from US$85,000 to nearly US$5 million as of March 2022, an increase of 57 times. Tuna exports to many markets reversed and increased sharply.

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), with its market of 2.2 billion people in 15 nations, has been forming the largest free trade area in the world. Vietnam is deliberately promoting goods export, especially seafood, to this lucrative market as its next strategic economic step.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will continue to coordinate with relevant ministries and sectors in supporting businesses to minimise impacts of trade remedies which may have an detrimental effect on Vietnam’s export activities.
