Last night in New York futures market, March 2009 closed at 45.03 with a loss of 80 points while the volume traded was 13556 contracts and the May 2009 closed at 46.47 with a loss of 52 points and the trading volume was 13851, while July 2009 was closed at 47.96 with a loss of 48 points and the trading volume was 3698 contracts. The Cot Look - A index declared settled at 55.35 with a decrease of 100 points today.
A WTO Response to Trade Policy Uncertainties

WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy in an early February presentation to the Trade Policy Review Body continued to focus on the need to track members’ policy changes that restrict trade. Policy makers recognize that opening markets to increased international competition is almost impossible in an economic recession, but less attention has been given to how to respond to the economic downturn while maintaining openness in trade.
More Terrible Trade Numbers from China

Wednesday while I was preparing for my presentation in Hong Kong on the impact of slowing trade on the Chinese economy, one of the participants in the conference passed on to me the January trade numbers, which had just been released. Although they were “surprisingly” bad, and fit perfectly within my very gloomy presentation, they were also not a surprise in the sense that they show what many of us had been expecting anyway.
