The powerloom weavers in the country’s largest man-made fabric (MMF) sector have decided to launch protest against the spinners of nylon filamentyarn for forcing the weavers to sign a petition in favour of anti-duping duty on the yarn imported from China and other countries.
Leaders of the powerloom industry stated that the nylon filamentyarn spinners are circulating the petition amongst the nylon yarnweavers in the city for signing in favour of the anti-dumping duty. The petition states that the surge of imported yarn at differential prices is affecting the profitability of fabrics. There is no technical support or any complaint redressal system with imported yarn and no consistency of manufacturers. However, we have been regularly buying nylon yarn manufactured by Indian spinners and thus the anti-dumping duty on imported yarn is called for.
It must be recalled that the powerloom weavers and the Indian Art Silk Weaving Industry (FIASWI) has put up a strong protest against the demand of the Indian spinners for imposing anti-dumping duty on nylon filament yarn imported from other countries. The weavers have stated that the anti-dumping duty on nylon yarn will affect the nylon weavers and that the Indian spinners will start the price monopoly.
Talking with TOI, president of Pandesara Weavers Cooperative society, Ashish Gujarati said, “The yarn spinners are literally forcing the weavers to sign the petition in favour of anti-dumping duty on imported yarn. We are against this move by the Indian spinners and have decided to take this issue to the central government.”
Mayur Golwala, leader of powerloom industry said, “All the nylon weavers in the city have been asked not to sign the petition. We are ready to fight with the Central Government over the anti-duping issue. With this, the Indian spinners want to take the entire MMF sector in their control.”
