The Finance Ministry has extended the existing anti-dumping duty on imports of grinding media balls (also known as casting balls) from China and Thailand for five more years.
Grinding media balls are extensively used in grinding mills for grinding and crushing limestone and clinker in cement plants, mineral ore in mines and coal in thermal power plants. They are also used in the ceramic industry and in chemical engineering.
AIA Engineering and Welcast Steel Ltd had last year filed the petition seeking sunset review investigations on grinding media ball imports from China and Thailand.
Based on the recommendation of the designated authority in the Commerce Ministry, the revenue department has now imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty of $387.36 per tonne on all grinding media balls (excluding forged grinding media balls) from China.
In the case of Thailand, anti-dumping duty has been pegged at $158.80 per tonne for imports from Magotteaux Co Ltd, Thailand. For all other producers and exporters, anti-dumping duty has been pegged at $187 per tonne,
