China has made a number of announcements on anti-dumping duty orders, including to launch an investigation into US, Korean, and Taiwanese exports of styrene, which is used to manufacture plastics and resins.
China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) announced that it would investigate claims of dumping against exporters of styrene. Dumping occurs when good are sold into a foreign market at below the prevailing market rate in the exporter's domestic market. A decision is expected to be taken by June 2018.
MOFCOM also announced the preliminary results of an investigation into dumping by exporters of POM Copolymer from Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia. This is typically used in the manufacture of machinery and electronics, medical appliances, pipe fittings, and building materials, among other things.
Companies from the three countries will now pay AD on exports to China of between 9.5 percent and 34.9 percent.
Finally, MOFCOM said that it was removing AD orders on Epichlorohydrin (ECH) exported into China from the US, Russia, Japan, and Korea. ECH is used in the production of glycerol, plastics, epoxy glues and resins, and elastomers. The AD orders on ECH from these countries have been in place since June 2006 and were subject to a periodic review.
MOFCOM had announced in November 2016 that the AD measures would expire unless a representative of the Chinese ECH industry requested a review before June 27, 2017. In the absence of such a request, the AD measures were terminated with effect from June 28.
