Will Viet Nam's textile and garment industry escape its role as a mere processing hub by 2026?

From a large-scale processing industry, many Vietnamese textile and garment businesses have received custom orders from customers in the US, Japan, and other countries. In 2026, these high-value, individual orders are expected to increase significantly.
In a statement commemorating the 50th anniversary of Viet Tien Garment Corporation (stock code: VGG), Mr. Vu Duc Giang, Chairman of the Board of Directors and also Chairman of the Viet Nam Textile and Garment Association (VITAS), expressed his expectation that the textile and garment industry will see many new breakthroughs in 2026.
According to him, there is still enormous potential to increase the added value of Vietnamese products. From 2026, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry will not only rely on large-scale processing but will shift to segments with higher intellectual content and skilled labor. Only then can businesses increase profits and competitiveness in the international market.
Mr. Giang cited the example of May 10 Garment Company, which now produces suits for the Japanese and American markets by tailoring each suit to individual customers, instead of mass production as before. In this process, manual labor accounts for up to 60%, while machinery handles the remaining 40%.
Another textile company also completed an order for 6.8 million single-piece shirts for the global market in 2025.
"This shows that international consumers are increasingly valuing the skills and craftsmanship of Vietnamese workers, seeing this as a differentiating value of the products," Mr. Giang emphasized. Leveraging the growing trend of personalization and custom design for each customer, the textile and garment industry expects to enter a new phase of development, a phase of small but high-value orders.
To achieve this, leaders assert that businesses must invest heavily in technology, management, and flexible supply chains to meet increasingly diverse needs.
Regarding business results, Viet Tien estimated total revenue last year to reach over 18,500 billion VND, an increase of 6.8% compared to 2024. The company has now exported "Made in Viet Nam" products to many countries including the US, EU, Japan, and South Korea. According to the plan, the company will achieve 1 billion USD in export revenue by 2029-2030 (equivalent to 26,500 billion VND).
Many other businesses also recorded double-digit growth in 2025 and set targets for 2026.
Specifically, last year Vinatex achieved estimated consolidated profits of 1,355 billion VND, the second highest in its history after 2021. This year, Vinatex plans for consolidated revenue of 20,000 billion VND, with projected consolidated profits in the range of 1,200-1,500 billion VND.
Similarly, Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Corporation (stock code: HTG) also achieved double-digit growth with estimated consolidated revenue of VND 5,537 billion. Estimated consolidated pre-tax profit reached VND 400 billion, a 13% increase compared to 2024, thanks to improved orders. In 2026, the company expects continued growth with revenue of VND 5,550 billion, export turnover of USD 269 million, and pre-tax profit of VND 420 billion…
2025 is considered a challenging year for the textile and garment industry. Total export turnover is estimated at $46 billion, an increase of approximately 5% compared to 2024. Vietnamese textile and garment products are currently present in 138 markets worldwide, with the US remaining the main market, with export turnover estimated at over $18 billion, an increase of approximately 10%.
Despite challenges such as US tariffs, the entire industry succeeded thanks to proactive adaptation, most notably the "90-day rapid response" campaign.
