Vietnam loses 70 percent of anti-dumping lawsuits

Vietnam has been slapped with as many as 39 anti-dumping lawsuits as of July this year, making it the seventh most sued country in the world, said Dr Vo Thanh Thu from the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre.

It has also lost cases at a rate of 70 percent, he said.

Mr Thu mentioned eight obstacles that need to be removed to help Vietnamese businesses avoid lawsuits which take away their time, prestige and finances.

For instance, he said, there is a lack of legal tools to protect exports, a shortage of professionalism in anti-dumping management institutions, and an absence of proper integration strategies in many export businesses.
Meanwhile, Mr Thu added, state management for Vietnam’s export-import activities remains poor, leaving export industries to develop on their own.
