WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Commerce has assigned final antidumping duty rates ranging from 41.75% to 216.01% for certain Chinese bedroom producers that shipped goods to the U.S. in 2011.

The annual review is an audit that determines whether certain Chinese bedroom producers should be paying higher duties than their initial cash deposit rates.

The DOC said the rates are unchanged from the preliminary results issued in February. They will be applied retroactively to 2011 shipments, meaning that some of these companies can be paying higher duties than the initial rates.

Three companies - Baigou Crafts Factory of Fengkai, Foliot Furniture Inc. and Hualing Furniture (China) Co., also known as Tony House Manufacture, Buysell Investments and Tony House Inds. - have been assigned a 41.75% duty.

An All-China rate of 216.01% has been assigned to Shanghai Maoji Import and Export Corp. Ltd., Dongguan Huansheng Furniture Co. Ltd., Alexandre International Corp., Southern Art Development Ltd., Alexandre Furniture (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd., Southern Art Furniture Factory, Billy Wood Industrial (Dong Guan) Co. Ltd., Great Union Industrial (Dongguan) Co. Ltd., Time Faith Ltd., DongyingHuanghekou Furniture Industry Co. Ltd., Sheng Jing Wood Products (Beijing) Co. Ltd. and Telstar Enterprises Ltd.

The U.S. government-imposed duties are aimed at helping to level the playing field for U.S. manufacturers that have been harmed by illegal pricing tactics of Chinese bedroom producers. In these cases, the products have been found to be sold below materials costs, a violation of international trade laws.

The duties are assigned to the manufacturers but paid by importers of record.
