It is reported that in January to November 2008, Ukrainian steel plants received licenses for supply of 150,080 tonnes of licensable sheet products to US. The Ukrainian Economics Ministry said this is 99.63% of the annual quota.
The quota period has finished and Ukrainian steel mills are now selling their products to the United States without restrictions.
In 2007, the US Department of Commerce and the Ukrainian Economics Ministry agreed to extend for one year, until October 31st 2008, the effect of the intergovernmental agreement regulating the supply of sheet products to the United States. The quota on their supply rose from 142,111 tons to 150,638 tonnes. On January 16th 2004, Ukraine and the United States signed a supplement to the agreement of 1997 suspending an antidumping investigation on the import of Ukrainian sheet products.
The signing of the document resumed the possible delivery of 122,914 tonnes of Ukrainian sheet products on the US market no less than the level of reference prices and extended the effect of the agreement until November 1st 2004. As a result, the agreement has again been extended.
