TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Turkish flour producers may suspend export to Indonesia if Indonesia intended to impose an antidumping tariff as recommended by local producers earlier this month, a representative for Turkish Government said on Tuesday (27/10).
Aydin Evirgen, Turkish Ambassador to Indonesia said that his country will find another market for its flour if the government imposed the anti-diumping tariff, after Anti-dumping Committee accused Turkey of selling its flour below its domestic market prices.
Evirgen said Turkey exports around 1.2 million tonnes of flour annually to 70 countries, 19 percent of which or about 280 thousand tonnes was shipped to Indonesia. According to the International Grains Council, Turkey exported around two million tonnes between 2008 – 2009, or the second largest exporter below Kazakhstan and one level above the EU.
The statement came about two weeks after Indonesian flour producers association recommended the governmenmt to impose temporary anti-dumping tariff on flour from Australia, Turkey, and Sri Lanka, as the Anti-dumping Committee investigate the case.
