The United Kingdom and Germany’s processed sea food imports increase dramatically

In the first quarter of 2007, the amount of importing processed shrimps of Germany increased from 8,648 tons to 10,726 tons. The amount of imports from Thailand, India, Vietnam, and Honduras accounts for nearly 81% while that from Greenland and Canada account for only 6% of the total shrimp supply for Germany. The rest 13% is imported from Holland, Denmark, France and the United Kingdom.
In the meanwhile, there is comparatively enormous demand for frozen tuna tenderloin and fresh and frozen fillets. The consumption of tuna, marline, and epinephelus coioides, etc. which have high value transported by England air way increases every year.

In 2006, the United Kingdom imported 9,977 tons of fresh and frozen fillets, accounting 99.16 million US dollars, nearly as much twice as that in 2004 which was 50 million US dollars. The four top fillet suppliers for this market are Sri Lanka, Maldives, Iceland, Indonesia.
