On May 15th, at the Government Office, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung chaired a meeting on resolving difficulties and obstacles in the issuance and management of planting area codes, packaging facility codes, and agricultural product testing for export.
The meeting was attended by leaders from central ministries and agencies, specialized departments, as well as representatives from localities, businesses, and units related to the production and export of agricultural products. The conference was held in a hybrid format, connecting with 34 provinces and cities nationwide.
At the Lam Dong province's meeting point, Comrade Nguyen Minh, Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, attended the conference along with leaders of relevant departments and agencies.
According to reports presented at the conference, to date, the country has issued over 8,000 planting area codes and more than 1,600 packaging facility codes to serve exports to major markets such as China, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the European Union.
Exports of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products are projected to exceed US$62 billion in 2025, further affirming the important role of agriculture in economic growth.
At the conference, representatives from ministries, departments, and localities reported on and highlighted the current situation and shortcomings in the issuance and management of planting area codes and packaging facility codes; they also proposed numerous solutions to improve management efficiency and meet the increasingly stringent requirements of import markets.
The opinions indicate that there is still a situation where the codes are not used according to regulations, management data is not synchronized between localities; and post-issuance monitoring of codes is still limited in some places.
In addition, the capacity to test the quality of agricultural products and pesticide residues in some localities does not meet practical requirements, while the investment costs for equipment and personnel remain high.
Representatives from various localities proposed the early completion of a shared database system for planting area codes; strengthening decentralization and professional guidance; and supporting investment in upgrading the testing and traceability system and training technical personnel.
Many opinions also suggested promoting the application of digital technology in the management and monitoring of growing areas and packaging facilities to ensure transparency, accuracy, and convenience for exports.
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung emphasized that effective management of planting area codes, packaging facility codes, and improved testing capacity play a crucial role in building brands and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested that ministries, sectors, and localities urgently review and improve mechanisms, strengthen coordination in management and inspection, and apply technology to ensure the sustainable quality of exported agricultural products.
