Solar Trade War: EU wants deal with China before 7 June

Deadlines for China to come to terms with the EU over anti-dumping charges before possible duties are imposed have been set for early June, according to a report from Reuters.

Karel De Gucht, the European Trade Commissioner was quoted as saying that meetings had already taken place both in Europe and China but the investigation by the EU Commission would be making a decision on 7 June 2013, meaning any negotiated deal would need to be agreed before that date.

A change in China’s party leadership and trade departments were previously believed to have been a stumbling block in getting an agreement before the deadline.

Increasingly, Chinese module manufacturers have been reconciling themselves to some level of duties being imposed. However, the latest comments by De Gucht suggest that the window to negotiate a deal were still open.
