Phytosanitary deal opens up a market of 100mn consumers

Peru’s plant health authority Senasa has announced that Vietnam has approved imports of Peruvian mandarins after the approval of a new phytosanitary protocol at a recent meeting with its Vietnamese counterpart.

The deal gives Peruvian exporters access to a market of 100mn consumers.

Negotiations are also advancing on the agreement of an import protocol for fresh Peruvian blueberries to Vietnam, with both sides stating that after agreeing the requirements for mandarins, “this process will be faster”.

Last year Peruvian citrus reached more than 40 countries. The US was the number one market, taking 41 per cent of total shipments. Mandarin exports reached 190,000 tonnes, with the US, Netherlands and China being the main markets.
