MEXICO CITY, Sept 1 (Reuters) - In a win for U.S. high-fructose corn syrup exporters, Mexico's economy ministry has opted against opening an anti-dumping claim against them, the head of a leading Mexican fructose producer said on Tuesday.
The investigatory trade arm of the economy ministry, known by its Spanish-language acronym UPCI, decided on Monday that it would not pursue the anti-dumping claim despite pressure from a pair of domestic companies urging it to do so, the chief of one of the firms said on Tuesday.
The UPCI cited a lack of similarity between the fructose sweetener each country produces, said Sucroliq CEO Enrique Bojorquez.
The decision follows an agreement reached in December between Mexico and the United States that ended a months-long sugar dispute that threatened to escalate into a broader trade battle.
The deal eliminated hefty duties on Mexican exports but imposed limits on Mexican companies' access to the U.S. market.
