Malaysia to probe, alleged dumping activities by China

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will investigate alleged dumping of stranded wire, ropes and cables activities by China.
The International Trade and Industry Ministry has determined that there is sufficient evidence of "dumping, injury and causal link".
The ministry had earlier received a petition from domestic producers for the imposition of anti-dumping duty on imports of stranded wire, ropes and cables.
It aleged that stranded wire, ropes and cables are imported from China into Malaysia at a price much lower than the price in China.
This is causing material injury to the domestic industry in Malaysia.
"The imports from China have increased in terms of absolute quantity.
"As a result, the petitioner suffered from material injuries, among others, profitability, price suppression, reduction in domestic sales volume, loss of market share, negative return on investment, decrease in number of employees and inability to raise capital," the ministry said in a statement.
In accordance with the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993 and its related regulations, a preliminary determination will be made within 120 days from the date of initiation.
If the final determination is affirmative, the government may impose an anti-dumping duty based on the margin of dumping.
The ministry has provided a set of questionnaires for this investigation.
It said all interested parties - importers, foreign producers, exporters and associations - may request for the questionnaires no later than April 25.
Interested parties are also invited to make their views known in writing, in particular by replying to the questionnaires with supporting evidence to the ministry on or before May 13.
Last month, the ministry announced its decision to investigate dumping of newsprint rolls from four European countries, namely Belgium, Germany, Sweden and Britain.
In February, the complaint was on electrolytic tinplate from China and South Korea, following a dumping complaint by a local producer.
