Korea's trade commission on Thursday held a hearing on allegations that white Portland cement was dumped into the country.

The hearing hosted by the Korea Trade Commission came after Korea began levying duties of 72.23 percent on white cement from Egypt this month in a preliminary move. The move is effective through March.

The probe came as domestic cement producer Union filed a complaint in March against Egypt's Royal El Minya Cement and Albatros International Cement Trading, arguing that their cheap imports have negatively affected the local cement industry.

The products are used in construction, as well as in the production of paving blocks. The anti-dumping deposit is meant to prevent potential damage from imports to the local industry.

The commission, meanwhile, also launched a separate probe into a patent infringement allegation on disposable surgical gowns imported from China.
