Japan has agreed to remove its embargo on Polish beef from Aug. 1, the Polish Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.
"The final step towards reinstating Polish beef exports to Japan was made by the exchange of notes verbales between the Embassy of Japan in Warsaw and the Polish Foreign Ministry on July 31 2014," the ministry said in a statement.
"With France, the Netherlands and Ireland, Poland is among the few European countries whose beef will return to the Japanese market," the ministry noted.
The return of Polish beef to Japan is a result of lengthy negotiations, diplomatic efforts and the activities of the Chief Veterinary Inspectorate, the ministry added.
The ban was imposed in 2001 when mad cow disease (BSE) cases were detected in Europe.
