Japan’s regulations on fruit juice

Every year, a huge amount of fruit juice is imported into Japan. Nevertheless, the country is also very strict on the matter of examining food stuff quality. Referring to fruit juice, importers have to comply strictly with regulation on food stuff quality imposed by Japan.
 
Fruit juice imported to Japan has to meet all the terms of Law on Food Hygiene. It must be labeled suitable to criteria of the Law regardless of whether using Japan’s labels on quality or not. This is to make it convenience for the customers to evaluate the quality of the fruit juice.

 At the same time, fruit juice must be put in packages, bottles, or small jars according to regulations on wrapping, must have clear ingredients, name and address of the manufacturers (or importers) according to requirements of Law on Measure. These information must be highly accurate. If there is any unreasonable or wrong information, compensation will be paid according to regulation of Law on Healthy Competition.

 In addition, the law also encourages usage of packages made by recyclable materials

 Goods trade marks: According to regulations on food stuff hygiene, regulations on standards and lagal labeling to agricultural and forest products, a label of fruit juice must include the following information: the name of the product, contents, expire date, name and address of the manufacturer (or importer), ingredients (including additives) and name of the origin.

 In addition, on the containing bottles or jars, there must be clear statement whether the materials are recyclable or not.

Importing tax: the importing and exporting tax ranges from 22.5% to 35%.
