(India) Probe into Chinese dumping of barium carbonate

NEW DELHI: The government has initiated a probe into the alleged dumping of Barium Carbonate, used in the manufacture of television glass shell, lamps and clay ceramic products, by China after finding “sufficient evidence'' of injury to the domestic indu stry.

While initiating the investigation concerning imports of the harmful, non-flammable inorganic chemical, the Commerce Ministry said it would determine the existence, degree and effect of the alleged dumping to recommend the amount of duty.

“The Authority hereby initiates an investigation into the alleged dumping, and consequent injury to the domestic industry...to determine the existence, degree and effect of alleged dumping and to recommend the amount of anti-dumping measure, which, if le vied, would be adequate to remove the injury to the domestic industry,'' the Ministry said in a notification.

The period of investigation is April 2008 to March 2009.The injury investigation period will, however, cover the April 2005-March 2009, it said. – PTI
