Govt starts anti-dumping probe against IT equipment imports

New Delhi, Apr 27 (PTI) The government has initiated an anti-dumping investigation against imports of IT equipment, also used by telecom sector, to guard domestic industry from cheap imports from China and Israel.

Acting on an application of domestic producers on the alleged dumping of 'SDH Transmission Equipment' from China and Israel, the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) initiated anti-dumping probe.

"After finding evidences of dumping of the goods from China and Israel, the DGAD has initiated investigation," an official said The period of investigation for the purpose is April- December 2008.

India has already slapped anti-dumping duty on several items such as yarn, fabrics, some of the stainless steel products and chemicals imported from China.

Meanwhile, a WTO report recently said India topped the list of countries that have resorted to anti-dumping investigations between July and December 2008 to protect their domestic industries against cheap imports.

Of the total 120 new anti-dumping investigations initiated in the second-half of calendar 2008, India accounted for 42 cases, a report on the trade policy reviews by the WTO has said.
