New Delhi, May 13: The government has imposed an extra levy of up to 223 per cent on import of plastic processing machines from China.
The Central Board Of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has imposed provisional anti-dumping duty between 76 per cent and 223 per cent on the machines, CBEC said in a notification.
After reaching a conclusion that "the domestic industry has suffered material injury," the Directorate General of Anti-dumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) had recommended an ad valorem anti-dumping duty on import of the machines from China.
The DGAD had earlier found that plastic processing machines were being imported from China, at below its normal value, which was causing material injury to the domestic industry.
Earlier, the government had imposed duty on several other products including yarns, fabrics, colour picture tubes, some aluminum products and chemicals.
According to a recent World Trade Organisation (WTO) report, India initiated the highest number of anti-dumping investigations-- 42 such probes, followed by Brazil and China, between July and December, 2008.
