Dong Thap: At the risk of tra fish overproduction
06/04/2007 12:00
According to Mr Duong Nghia Qu?c, Chairman of Dong Thap Fisheries Association, this year has seen a hot development in tra fish production with total output expected to exceed 280,000 tonnes. The hot development trend is not likely regulated due to the massive production of tra fish by farmers destroying their orchids gardens or cultivating tra fish right on the rice farms.
Total fishing area of the province has increased by 30% over last year. Meanwhile, there are only 8 existing processing factories with total capacity of 230,000tonnes per year. Most of these factories have already establish their input materials farming within and outside the provinces, which may lead to overproduction crisis of tra fish production in last quarters of this year.
