From January 1, 2026, China will temporarily reduce import tariffs on 935 items to expand supply, promote technology, and foster green development.

According to an announcement on December 29th by the State Council of China's Customs and Tariff Commission, the country will apply temporary import tariffs lower than the Most Favored Nation (MFN) tariff rate to 935 items starting January 1st, 2026.

According to the announcement, this measure aims to strengthen coordination between domestic and international markets, more effectively utilize domestic and foreign resources, and expand the supply of high-quality goods. Specifically, China will reduce tariffs on certain key components and advanced materials to support the goal of high-level technological self-reliance; reduce tariffs on certain resources for green development; and reduce tariffs on certain medical products, including artificial blood vessels, to improve people's welfare.

In 2026, China will also optimize its national tariff classification and explanatory notes. To promote technological progress and the development of sectors such as the circular economy , it will add national tariff subclasses for certain products, including intelligent biorobotics and biofuels.

To deepen economic and trade cooperation and promote regional integration, China will continue to apply preferential tariffs on certain imported goods originating from 34 trading partners in 2026, in accordance with 24 signed free trade agreements and preferential trade agreements. In addition, China will maintain a zero tariff rate for 100% of tariff lines for 43 least developed countries with which it has diplomatic relations.

On the same day, the China Committee for International Trade Promotion (CCPIT) announced that it will intensify efforts, implement additional measures, and improve service quality to promote bilateral trade and investment between Chinese and US businesses in 2026.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on December 29, CCPIT spokesperson Wang Wenshuai said the council would leverage opportunities from inviting U.S. businesses and organizations to actively participate in business events within the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) "China Year" as well as the 4th China International Supply Chain Exhibition.

According to a CCPIT spokesperson, in 2025, CCPIT approved more than 3,900 Chinese companies to participate in 126 specialized trade shows in the US, with a total actual exhibition area of 52,000 square meters. At the third China International Supply Chain Exhibition, the number of participating US companies increased by 15% compared to the previous year, continuing to lead in terms of the number of foreign exhibitors.
