China suggested that this country would lift its embargo on aquatic products imported from Indonesia. In order that, Indonesia must prove that the number of sweets infected by formalin that China’s authorities found was made in China. Therefore, Indonesia administrations should investigate this case again.
Mr. Fang Qiuchang, an economical and commercial consultant of Chinese Embassy, said that if Indonesia government could meet two China requirements, this country would allow importing Indonesian aquatic products as in the past. He affirmed this embargo was not a retaliatory measure.
China rejected importing seafood and drinking from Indonesia because it was thought that these products contained mercury and other chemicals which are harmful people’s health.
Mr. Fang Qiuchang also said that Chinese Embassy itself carried out investigation and the result showed that not any formalin-infected product were made in China as Indonesia’s Medicine and Food Control Department (BPOM) accused.
He affirmed that China products met international standards and most of found formalin-infected products were made in Indonesia and two of them were made in Taiwan. China abandoned to import aquatic products from Indonesia after Jakarta started the national control campaign and found many formalin-infected sweets and cosmetic with China labels.
