China’s Ministry of Commerce said it is investigating anti-dumping complaints about nylon 6/6 from the US, Italy, England, France and Taiwan.

The agency said it is responding to a complaint from Pingdangshen Shenma Engineering Plastic Co, which it said accounts for over 50% of mainland China’s nylon 6/6 production. It said the complaint from Shenma, based in Pingdangshen, China, represents the domestic industry.

The ministry said the anti-dumping investigation covers from 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008, with the period of industry damage covering from 1 January 2005 to 30 June 2008.

Chinese authorities said the review will be completed by 14 November 2009, although it could be extended to 14 May 2010.

Shenma said last year it had expanded, reaching annual production capacity of 276 million pounds. The firm then claimed to be the world’s fourth-largest nylon 6/6 maker.

Chinese news reports said China imported 209 million pounds of the material in the first five months of the year, worth an estimated $294m.
